Shafeena has raised awareness about resilience, burnout, and overcoming adversity while empowering others to recognise that their past does not define their future through her work and public speaking, Shafeena’s work focuses on providing clear communication, practical legal guidance, and a supportive experience during what is often one of the most significant financial decisions in a person’s life. Alongside her legal career, she is passionate about encouraging conversations around wellbeing, resilience, and managing pressure in demanding professional environments. She is also a dedicated advocate for raising awareness of domestic abuse, a cause she has actively supported for the past three years through weekly awareness campaigns and educational content. In addition, she serves on the board of a domestic abuse charity and is currently undertaking a Master’s degree focused on domestic abuse, further strengthening her commitment to supporting and informing those affected by it.
Shafeena’s journey into advocacy began during her postgraduate legal studies, where she researched domestic abuse and coercive control. What began as academic research soon became deeply personal when she recognised the impact that childhood trauma and abuse had on her own life. This realisation became a turning point that led her to begin a long journey of healing, reflection, and reclaiming her voice. Growing up in a challenging and abusive environment, Shafeena experienced emotional, psychological, and physical abuse from a young age. After losing her father at just seven years old, the instability around her intensified. For many years she carried the invisible weight of these experiences without fully understanding their long-term impact. As an adult, this trauma eventually manifested as severe burnout, depression, anxiety, and a mental health crisis that
forced her to pause, rebuild, and rediscover herself.
Through therapy, resilience, and determination, Shafeena began the process of reclaiming control over her life. She returned to university, completed her Legal Practice Course and Master’s degree in Law with distinction, and qualified as a solicitor. Her journey from surviving adversity to building a professional legal career shaped her belief that resilience is not about avoiding hardship, but about finding the courage to rise again after it. Today, Shafeena speaks openly about resilience, burnout, and the hidden impact of trauma. Her keynote talk, Your Past Does Not Define Your Future, shares the deeply personal story behind her journey while offering audiences clarity and perspective on how individuals can recognise their challenges, seek support, and rebuild their lives with strength and purpose. Alongside her professional work, Shafeena is deeply committed to charitable and community initiatives. She is a trustee of WAITS (Women Acting in Today’s Society), a charity dedicated to supporting women affected by domestic abuse. Her commitment to the cause has seen her complete two half marathons in 2023 and 2024, raising over £2,900 to support survivors. She was also recognised for her dedication through the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2024 and 2025 and was nominated as a “One to Watch Woman” at the Phoenix Awards. Through her speaking, Shafeena hopes to remind audiences that while we cannot always control what happens to us, we can choose how we move forward. Her message is simple yet powerful: healing is possible, resilience can be built, and our future is not defined by our past but by the courage we show in rewriting our story.
