Candice McKenzie is an award-winning DJ, respected radio presenter and podcast producer who uses her voice to raise awareness about kidney health. She is a passionate and authentic speaker whose work is rooted in education, empowerment and community transformation.
In 2019, Candice was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a form of chronic kidney disease also known as Berger’s disease. By 2022, her kidneys had failed, and she began dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant. Her lived experience has become the foundation for a powerful message – one that is grounded in resilience, practical knowledge and hope.
Candice is the founder and director of the African Caribbean Kidney Education Enterprise TM (ACKEE), a Community Interest Company (CIC) that delivers culturally relevant kidney health education, champions early detection of kidney disease, and raises awareness about the urgent need for more organ donors, particularly within Black British communities.
With a career spanning nearly 27 years, Candice is a seasoned media professional with extensive experience in DJing, radio broadcasting and podcast production. Her communication skills and ability to connect with audiences have made her a compelling presence both on air and on stage. As a kidney health advocate, she regularly draws from her personal journey to inform and uplift others, sharing insights on managing chronic kidney disease and raising awareness of kidney health.
Candice is regularly invited to share her story across national media platforms, including the BBC and Premier Christian Communications (Premier Christian Radio, Premier Gospel, Premier Praise). She also collaborates with pharmaceutical companies, health researchers, charities and CICs, contributing to wider conversations around health inequalities and the
importance of culturally sensitive care.
Candice delivers her message with warmth, clarity and professionalism. She transforms her own health challenges into a message of purpose, hope and change, leaving audiences with the tools and motivation to take action in their own communities.
